Essex Police Station

Essex, VT
18,600 SF Public Safety Facility

In 2009 Wiemann Lamphere Architects worked with the Essex Police Department to establish a program of space requirements that would satisfy the department’s needs for the next 40 years. After a deep dive into the programmatic requirements of the department and the operational adjacencies, WLA developed a plan with a strong, circulation based concept for public/security access, and provided strong adjacencies and connections with departments. This reinforced communication and collaboration that was lacking with the prior arrangement. Multiple work sessions were held to establish parameters and determine a list of requirements for physical spaces. The new building, completed in 2014, allows the police department to gather together all of its separate components under one efficient roof and expand when needed in the future.
