After 40 years of service, the existing Swanton Municipal Office building is in need of modernization and expansion to accommodate the growing needs of the community. WLA was hired to determine a possible path to extend the life of the existing building and meet the current and anticipated needs of the various departments for years to come. The building includes the Village Municipal Offices, Public Works Department, Swanton Electric, the Swanton Police Department, and the Swanton Fire and Rescue services. The proposed plan includes an addition of 12,650 sf primarily to increase the capacity of the vehicle and equipment storage areas, as well as to provide adequate space for police operations. The remainder of the work includes reorganization of office spaces to support the various departments and repair of deferred maintenance items. The Village of Swanton plans to take the work developed to a public bond vote for approval in 2020.
