The Homestead Preschool
South Burlington, VT
4,500 SF New Construction
The Homestead Preschool had the opportunity to purchase an adjacent lot to build a new infant and toddler school since the existing building didn’t have enough space to accommodate the younger age groups. The new building was designed to imply a carriage barn, acting as a secondary building to the main preschool building which is Victorian in style. The additional space allowed the facility to expand its playground space, as well as create better vehicular and pedestrian circulation on site. The new building has five classrooms and a gross motor skill room, all with large windows and high ceilings, creating bright and vibrant spaces. There is a central mudroom that the classrooms open into with ample cubby space for infant and toddler gear. The Homestead’s design is inspired by the concept of wildflowers where children will blossom. This is reflected in the color palette of nature inspired colors and materials with pops of colors throughout within the doors, cabinetry, furniture and artwork. The thoughtfully designed spaces allow children to explore, create, play, and develop skills in an attractive, spacious, and welcoming environment.
